“Love the Problem, Not the Solution.”
- Ash Maurya.
It's time to fall back in love with helping more people build a better web, and it’s time to recognize that building visually is just one solution to this problem.
We love visual development
Visual development has transformed the way we create for the web. It has democratized web design and development, allowing non-programmers to create compelling layouts and interfaces. However, visual development has its limitations, particularly when it comes to implementing logic and handling more complex tasks. Recognizing these limitations is essential for fostering a more versatile approach to web building.
We welcome written development
Written development is foundational to the web, and the best visual development works by surfacing the fundamentals of the underlying code. However, visual development, especially for tasks like logic, can quickly become limiting and difficult to scale. We believe that by integrating written development with visual development, we can overcome the limitations and enable builders to create more robust and intricate web solutions.
We are building a bridge
Introducing Slater, a canvas designed to bridge the gap between visual and traditional developers. As a visual developer working in Webflow, we are here to provide you with the basics of how to configure just enough JavaScript and provide paired programming superpowers with teammates and AI; to streamline how and where you touch code. As a traditional developer, we are here to build a first-class, uncompromised development experience that bridges code and no-code. We have taken down the walls of character limits, and burdensome workflows, and added code completion, deployment powers, and team-level control.
We don't have all the answers
We have the battle scars of merging visual and traditional development workflows through ten years of client projects and recently with experiments like Letter Run. And so we have built Slater to streamline our process, and now we want to share this radical idea with the world. This approach isn't for everyone, but if you have hit limits in your development, then it might just be for you.
Join us as we aim to help build a better web
We invite you to join our journey as we document progress, share insights, and seek valuable feedback. Together, we'll redefine web building through the No-Code to Knowing-Code generation, merging visual and traditional development to empower builders and unlock untapped potential.
